Creating a Display or Photo Wall

Creating a display or photo wall can seem like a daunting task. Especially when you have plenty of art you want to showcase and no real direction to start. In this post, we'll walk you through the steps to creating your unique wall display. To start, go through your house and decide which wall you would like to decorate. It could be anything from a small space over the fireplace to the whole wall in your entryway. Next, pick a geometric shape for your display. The shape you choose could be a diamond, circle, or square. If you are using art pieces that are of different shapes and sizes, you might want to consider placing them in an irregular shape on the wall. The irregular shape gives you the freedom to highlight the artwork's unique design without getting drowned out by other pieces. You're going to want to consider how large you want your display. If the display is too large, your wall will look cluttered. If it's too small you'll be missing the wow factor you were going for all along. Make different measurements of your chosen shape to ensure you've gotten the perfect fit. This will come in handy and lay out some groundwork once you've gathered all the art pieces or photos you'll be using for the display.

Gathering Artwork or Photos

Now, here comes the fun part you'll have to gather up all that amazing art you've got hidden around the house. Then choose the ones that will fit the look and design of your display wall. Consider going for pieces that accent each other this will help your wall look more coherent and help you achieve the overall look you planned out. Once you've gathered the pieces arrange them on the floor in the shape and dimensions you decided on earlier. Then, play around with the placement of the pieces. What you thought worked well might not be what you envisioned now that it's all placed together. When the floor arrangement matches what you have planned for your wall display take a picture. The picture will ensure nothing gets out of place when you hang the pieces on the wall. The last thing anyone wants is for their display not to come out exactly how they envisioned.

Wall Work

Alright, now you've taken care of all the leg work. The last few steps will be a breeze. You want to choose wall hangings or shelves to hold up your art pieces; make sure you're choosing sturdy support that can hold up to the weight of the artwork or picture you will be putting up for display. If you're using shelves go with something simple this ensures the shelves don't become the main focus. Now, take out your pencil and measuring tape and draw a guide on the wall of the design and dimensions you had decided on earlier.
