Opt for a Sturdy But Elegant Gallery Rod System
When you run a gallery, you need a picture hanging system that will take the weight of numerous pieces of art. Plus, your collection is likely to keep changing, depending on what you're exhibiting at a certain time. Some collections might be heavier while others might be lighter. So it's best to have a picture hanging system that will be able to take the weight of heavy as well as light artworks. And a gallery rod system can do just that.
Advantages of a Gallery Rod System
There are many advantages to a gallery rod system.
- Sturdy: As mentioned above, a gallery rod system can take the weight of heavy as well as light artworks.
- Elegant: A gallery rod system is elegant, with rails and rods made of aluminum or steel. When you're hanging a piece of artwork, you want a hanging system like this, which will enhance rather than detracting from its beauty.
- Unobtrusive: The rod is thin enough to not be very noticeable.
- Choices: You can get a ceiling-mounted or a wall-mounted rail and a U-end or J-bend rod, the latter of which is available in aluminum or steel.
Components of a Gallery Rod System
A gallery rod system consists of a rail, a rod and a hook as well as a few other optional pieces.
Rail
You can opt for a wall-mounted picture rail such as the Gallery picture rail or the Moderna picture rail. If you prefer a ceiling-mounted picture rail, you can choose from the Sky picture rail or the Slim Line picture rail. If you prefer all your fittings to be hidden behind the rail, then the click track picture rail or the Deco Click Track picture rail might be right for you.
Rod
The Ball End hanging rod has a ball at the end which slides into the rail. The Aluminum Classic hanging rod has a U-shaped hook at the upper end which hooks onto both, ceiling mounted and wall-mounted rails. The Aluminum J-Bend hanging rod looks a little like a question mark at the top; it's J-bend allows it to rest flat against the wall which makes it more unobtrusive. The J-Bend is also available in stainless steel.
Hook
The museum rod hook slides onto the rod and gets locked in its position once you place weight on it. For heavier artworks, you can use the heavy museum rod hook. And for extra security, you can go with the anti-theft museum rod hook.
